ACTION in the Marian Academy Primary/Secondary Schools badminton tournament concluded last Tuesday in the school’s auditorium, with titles for Ruel Rambiriche, Vikash Mootoo and Reba Ramlall.

Rambiriche prevailed in the primary Boys’ category, where he defeated Nikhil Sookraj, 11-6 in the final. The final followed Rambiriche’s wins against Tejasvarun Kandavel (11-3) in the semi and Jared Bird (11-6) in the quarterfinal.

In the Boys’ secondary schools category, Mootoo ruled the roost, after securing a 21-18 victory against Matthew Beharry in the final.
Beharry had earlier beaten out Shemroy Holder 21-10 for his place in the final, while Mootoo had disposed of Pumshotam Balgobin 21-5.
Both Balgobin and Holder faced close matches in their quarter-final battles, barely clinching their spots in the semi-finals.

For Holder it was a close 22-20 against Shaquain Sawh. Balgobin clinched a 21-18 win against Rasheed January.
The secondary schools Girls’ singles belonged to Ramlall who turned back the challenge from Sacha Parmanand claiming a 21-15 win.

Just prior to ousting Parmanand, Ramlall battled it out in her semi-final match against Amelia Balram, where she had an easy 21-6 margin.
Parmanand also had an easy time in her semis where she trounced Elesa Sangster 21-8.
