Impressive flight with Fly Jamaica

Dear Editor,
IN December 2016, my desire was to visit Guyana through the services of Fly Jamaica but reluctantly, through the urgings of my wife, was forced to abandon the idea.
I however vowed that my next trip, with or without her, that Fly Jamaica will be my first and only choice. So when the opportunity came faster than I anticipated or planned, I grabbed the chance to use the services of Fly Jamaica to witness the seventh edition of the Guyana Softball Cup, organised by the Guyana Floodlights Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA) during the first week of November.

It was indeed a memorable and unforgettable experience going to Guyana from the Lester Pearson International airport, Toronto, to the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Guyana and vice versa. Special kudos are extended to Station Assistant Edward van Luien and staff who are based at Fly Jamaica’s office, Toronto, for the efficient, orderly and timely manner they handled the boarding arrangements and the warm greetings accorded by senior cabin crew supervisor Ms Corbin. It was truly a breath of fresh air.

On complimenting Mr van Luien for the smooth running of affairs, his modest response was “it’s a team effort and the airline’s motto is “One team, one dream.” Captain Neil “Butch” Savory, a veteran in the industry, greeted all with aplomb and his frequent announcements pertaining to the various destinations were also very educational while the landing was incident-free.

My return journey was no less impressive, this time under the command of Captain Lippi and cabin crew supervisor Ms Lauressa Lewis. One thing that however left an indelible mark on my mind was the compassion and love shown by a member of the cabin crew to a mother who was travelling with a child, who was just about nine months to a year.

As the plane landed at Lester Pearson, the cabin crew member was observed holding and comforting the toddler as the mother attended to her luggage. Before I forgot, the meals were not only excellent, but the quantity was also pleasing as compared to another airline which plies the same route and offers one free suitcase, whereas with Fly Jamaica you are assured of two free baggages plus a carry-on. Despite some hiccups along the way, Fly Jamaica has certainly come a long way since its inaugural flight in February, 2013 and I urge fellow Guyanese to support the entity wholeheartedly.
