Editor’s note

This week’s Pepperpot brings sober reflection to important issues in society. We look at the Mother’s in Black Movement and their work over the past 20 years to advocate for road safety, even as they continue to mourn the loss of their own children who died at the hands of reckless drivers.

We also take a moment to examine the issues surrounding domestic violence and the number of women who continue to die as a result of this societal ill. This topic is particularly relevant in light of the recent death of 22 year old Kescia Branche who was found brutalised and unconscious on the side of the road just a week ago.

But even in all these things, we do take the time to celebrate: the accomplishment of a young man who has set his sights on the Olympic Games in Japan, and whose stellar performance thus far very well makes it likely that he could bring home a win for our country; the will of one young woman who encourages persons to embrace their cultural roots; and the experience of one young musician who represented Guyana at the biggest Latin American music festival in the world and has returned with newfound inspiration for the local music industry. It is our hope, as always, that these stories enrich your Sunday reading.
