A FORMER police officer was on Monday remanded to prison on three firearm- related charges and for escaping from police custody.
Kwasie Maloney who appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, denied that on October 12, at the Route 44 minibus park, he had in his possession a 9mm pistol, 19 rounds of 59×28mm ammunition, along with a spent shell when he was not a licensed firearm holder.
Maloney further denied that on the same day, he escaped from the Brickdam Police Station while in custody pending the three firearm-related charges.
The unrepresented man pleaded with the magistrate to be released on bail but Police Prosecutor, Richard Harris objected and explained that the gun and ammunition were in the possession of the accused when he was searched by police, on the day in question.
The Magistrate ruled in the prosecution’s favour and remanded Maloney until October 30.
