Bandit shoots, robs GRA staff

–in his West Ruimveldt neighbourhood

POLICE are investigating an armed robbery in which an Enforcement Officer of the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) was shot by an assailant on Saturday morning.

According to the police, the officer, who has been identified as 35-year old Ariel Banjamin, is presently at a private medical institution in a stable condition nursing a gunshot wound to his lower abdomen.

The police said that around 04:30hrs Saturday morning, the Cactus Street, West Ruimveldt man was about to enter his home when he was pounced upon and shot by a male suspect armed with a handgun.

His assailant relieved him of a pouch containing a service pistol with 17 live rounds during the course of the robbery before fleeing. A spent shell was recovered at the crime scene, while two males have since been arrested in connection with the incident.
