City Hall embraces ‘Mobile Money’

TOWN Clerk Royston King has signed a contract with Guyana Telephone and Telephone (GTT) for the introduction of ‘Mobile Money’ at the Mayor and City Council (M&CC) to save the public time.
Guyana Chronicle understands that the City Council has since updated its taxpayers’ payroll to facilitate the new system that the municipality wants to bring on board sometime in October.

In the meantime, GTT has commenced training with Head of the Information Technology Department at M&CC, Adunni Christian, and other officers of the department.
Apart from being able to pay rates and taxes electronically, the Council also has in mind to eventually extending the use of ‘Mobile Money’ to the payment of other fees, such as market and daycare fees.

The new system is catering specially for the elderly who at present must endure long lines at City Hall when going to make their payments. Furthermore, it will also help the City Council to optimise its use of technology and even save it cost by reducing the use of paper and ink.
