Speedboat operator in court for drug trafficking

A 37-year-old speedboat operator was on Tuesday remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan for drug trafficking.
Deon Vangronigen of Parika, East Bank Essequibo, is alleged to have had 868 grams of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking, on September 15 at Second Avenue, Bartica.

The unrepresented accused denied the drug-trafficking charge when it was read to him and the Chief Magistrate remanded him to prison until October 12. The matter is transferred to the Bartica Magistrates Court.

The court heard that on September 15 last, the Police in F’ Division while acting on information received, contacted the defendant at Second Avenue, Bartica and conducted a search on his person and his belongings, thereupon the illegal substance was unearthed in his haversack.
