Twenty-two wickets fall on day one between Georgetown and East Bank
– Ricardo Adams lights up Albion with 145

A mind-boggling 22 wickets fell on the opening day of the first round fixture of the Jaguars Franchise League three-day tournament between Georgetown and East Bank yesterday at the Lusignan Community Centre ground.

Both teams were bowled out – East Bank first for 115 followed by Georgetown for 136 – with the East Bank franchise then reaching stumps on 20-2, batting a second time.
Asked to bat first on a pitch which provided some early help for the bowlers, the East Bank franchise lurched feebly to 77-8 by lunch.
With Test batsman Vishual Singh in their line-up, the East Bank franchise could not recover from the early loss of Stefon Browne (0) who offered a simple return catch to pacer Paul Wintz in the day’s third over.

Thereafter, they lost fellow opener Sachin Singh (1), leg before-wicket to Qumar Torrington, while Robin Bacchus, and Joshua Wade claimed the wickets of Danny Narayan (7), and Ronaldo Ali-Mohamed (0), with the East Bank franchise being reduced to 25-4.
However, the only defiance during that session came from the diminutive Vishual Singh and Sherfane Rutherford, with a fifth-wicket stand of 32, until Steven Sankar and Gajanan Suknanan reaped the rewards for some quality spin bowling.

Sankar trapped Rutherford leg before wicket for 19, while Suknanan removed the West Indies reject, Singh for 32. He then then had the wicket of Corwin Austin without scoring before Sankar struck just before the interval when he removed Deonarine Seegobin for seven.
Resuming after the interval, Sagar Hathiramani and Ershad Ali then provided some resistance, adding 20 runs before Hethiramani went to Sankar for seven.
Ali who remained unbeaten on 18, then put together another vital partnership with Totaram Bishun, who contributed 13 in the 18-run stand before Suknanan claimed the final wicket.

Both Sankar and Suknanan finished with figures of 3-38 and 3-24 respectively.
The response was also a poor performance from the City batsmen. They too lost wickets at regular intervals, with only Bacchus (51) putting up a fight.
Medium-pacer Ali-Mohamed started the demolition with the wickets of Martin Pestano-Belle (0) and Sunil Singh (2), but it was fellow medium-pacer Rutherford who sent the City team tumbling, with figures of 7-48.

Dexter Solomon (29), Devon Lord (19) and Wade (12), were the other batsmen to reach double figures.
Wintz then removed Browne (1) and Narayan (0) in a busy three-over spell, with the East Bank franchise being one run behind the first innings deficit, with eight second innings wickets in hand. Vishual Singh and Sachin Singh will resume today on six and four respectively.

Meanwhile, the clash between Lower Corentyne and Essequibo at Albion ground saw Ricardo Adams hitting 145 in Essequibo’s total of 274. Lower Corentyne ended the day on 62-3, still training by 152 runs.
West Berbice were bowled out for 93, replying to Upper Corentyne first innings total 152. Day one between East Coast and West Demerara at Wales Community Centre ground, was washed out.
Play resume at all four venues today at 9:30hrs.
