Editor’s note

AS we observe both Indigenous Heritage and Education Month in September, the Pepperpot will seek to bring to you stories that fall into these themes.

This week, we begin by looking at the moral and educational value of Indigenous folklore and how our first people are seeking to preserve it, in a time when such art forms seem to be losing the battle to science and technology. We also look at the work and passion of some educators as they seek to ensure that the youth of this country are groomed into the leaders that we wish them to be.

With the closing of CARIFESTA, some of our writers have sought to reflect on the experiences of some participants, and the lessons that will be brought back to Guyana to help with our cultural development. The town of Rose Hall has recently observed its 175th Anniversary, and this edition also pays tribute to some outstanding persons who have helped to contribute to its rich history.

These and other stories decorate the pages of the Pepperpot in an aim to bring enrichment to your Sunday reading.
