THE second edition of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Jaguars Franchise League three-day tournament is set to bowl off today with four matches playing simultaneously countrywide.

In those matches, powerhouse Georgetown will face East Bank at Lusignan Community Centre ground, East Coast will tackle West Demerara at Wales Community Centre ground, West Berbice versus Upper Corentyne at Bush Lot and Lower Corentyne will clash with Essequibo at Albion ground. All matches are expected to start at 09:30hrs.
The Jaguars three-day League replaces the Senior Inter-County tournament and features over 100 of our local cricketers.
Meanwhile, in an invited comment, head coach of the Georgetown team, Colin Stuart, is of the view that while the League is of tremendous benefit to the game locally, it also provides opportunities where more players will be exposed to a professional set-up.
The 43-year-old added, “From this League we will be able to produce more players who are not contracted players.”
Stuart, who played six Tests and five ODI’s for the West Indies, pointed out that the League will also create competitiveness among the players.
The League will be streamlined to feed into the Cricket West Indies Professional Cricket League Four-day competition and the Regional Super50.
