THE Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF) has selected four cyclists to represent Guyana at the 2017 Pan American Cycling Championships scheduled for Trinidad and Tobago’s National Cycling Centre in Balmain, Couva from August 30 to September 3.

According to information received, Romello Crawford, Geron Williams, Scott Savory and Daryl Rogers will make up the Guyanese team and they will be managed by Joseph Britton, while former Guyana Olympian James Joseph will be the team’s coach.
This will be the second time that Guyana will be a part of this Elite Championships, having been represented last year when the event was held in Mexico where Guyana was represented by Joseph and GCF president Horace Burrowes.
Joseph represented Guyana at the 1980 Moscow Olympics as well as the 1984 Los Angles Games.
Crawford, who hails from the Ancient County of Berbice, represented Guyana at last year’s Junior Pan American Track Championships held in Trinidad and Tobago last year and he is expected to give a good account of himself at this year’s Elite Championships in the Twin Island Republic.

Williams and Savory are the two most experienced members of the four-man team and have both been campaigning on a regular basis on the United States cycling circuit with very good results. They are both capable of medalling come August 30.
However, little is known about Rogers, who, according to information received, will be making his debut at this level. He is based in the United States.
Team manager Britton, along with Crawford and Rogers, will depart Guyana tomorrow when training will commence for the two cyclists at the competition’s facility.
Savory, due to work commitments, will join his colleagues on August 27.
Joseph and Burrowes will join the local cyclists on August 28.
This year’s championships will showcase Olympic medallists and reigning world champions and is being organised by the Pan American Cycling Federation in collaboration with the Trinidad and Tobago Cycling Federation.
