Cornwall ‘conditioning’ should not keep him from Windies squad- Sir Viv

WEST Indies legend Sir Vivian Richards has called for the inclusion of Antigua and Barbuda all-rounder Rahkeem Cornwall to West Indies the squad, despite concerns raised regarding the player’s physical conditioning.
Cornwall was omitted from the squad selected to tour England, despite a strong run of recent form which many have argued merits his automatic inclusion. Despite Cricket West Indies (CWI) claiming that the player remained on their radar, Cornwall is yet to be selected for the senior squad, choosing instead to list the player in a personal development program.

“Well Rahkeem has other issues with his conditioning … we are working very hard to get him to the position where if and when he gets into international cricket he could actually stand up to the rigors,” Browne said on the Good Morning Jojo show.
“I say this to people all the time, the way how cricket goes, there is always opportunity for players. If a player is not selected now, or a player is not selected 3 months, 6 months or 7 months down the road, there is always opportunity.”

Richards is confident that the time is right for the player to be introduced to the squad and should be given a chance to develop like other players have in the past.
“If you compare ‘Jimbo’ to when Shannon Gabriel first came into the team, Gabriel wasn’t that mobile in the field. He improved as the years went by. ‘Jimbo’ is a good catcher and we all agree that he looks a bit heavy but at the end of the day the guy has performed,” Richards told the Antigua Observer.
