THE GUYANA Manufacturing and Services Association (GMSA) has launched “Uncapped”, an agro-processors exhibition, market and food festival geared to boost the marketing capacity of local agro-processors.
The event which will be held on October 27- 29, is expected to feature some 80- 100 local exhibitors who will be given the chance to showcase and market local products.
GMSA President, Shyam Nokta, speaking at the launch at the Sophia Exhibition Complex said the initiative was conceptualised due to the challenges being faced by local producers and processors.
“While there are challenges which we would like to see addressed, the GMSA has recognised the need to showcase what manufacturers and agro-processors are already doing,” he related.

Emphasis will be placed on marketing small and medium scale processors and helping them synergise with organisations such as The Institute of Private Enterprise Development (IPED).
The GMSA president related that the exhibition is not a “one-off” something but the beginning of a series of similar exhibitions showcasing locally manufactured produce.
According to Business Minister Dominic Gaskin, who also addressed the launch, Guyanese are pressuring themselves by importing foods that can be produced here.
According to him, Guyana has abundant resources to establish a productive sector that can not only cater for the needs of locals but also the global market.
And, he said, the launch presents a unique opportunity for local businesses to network and market their products.
Local producers and processors would also be able to share ideas and strategies to assist in the overall development of the sector.
The Ministry of Business is looking at several initiatives to help industries which require some assistance to become viable and sustainable.
The launch was part of a wider initiative to boost the local production and manufacturing sectors.
