THE 12th edition of the National Schools Basketball Festival (NSBF) bounced off over the weekend with a series of games at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH).
The opening game saw Marian Academy girls beat the New Amsterdam Multilateral 19-9 with Jada Mohan leading the charge for the city side.
She scored 11 points, three assists, seven rebounds and six steals while Kellian Sauers pitched in with four points and Renuka Ramcharran added two points and three steals for Marian.

Tashika Arthur was the lead person for the ladies from Berbice, with a team-high 5 points to go along with 6 rebounds.
Meanwhile Under-14 defending champions Mackenzie High School (MHS) sent an early warning to the rest of the group, making light work of President’s College 29 to 21 points.
Damarcus Adams top-scored with 10 points and five rebounds while Cy Walker added four points and seven rebounds while Joshua Bacchus chipped in with seven rebounds.
Gabriel Lin was the high man for PC with nine points and four rebounds while Joshua Butts had five points.

It was not all smooth sailing for other teams as the Georgetown/East Coast Under-16 Regional champions St Rose’s were edged by a motivated Bishops’ High School 37-36.
Royden Glasgow led for BHS with nine points and six rebounds while Tarik Robinson and Stefan Hamilton added eight and seven points respectively.
In their loss, Kwesi Roberts added 12 points and 14 rebounds while Anthony Yansen scored 11 points and 14 rebounds.
In the night’s U-19 fixture, Mackenzie High overwhelmed New Amsterdam Multilateral 41-24 with Veshon Trim adding six points with Yannick Tappin and Shemar Henry contributing five points each.

Garfield Benjamin was led New Amsterdam with nine points.
In the final game for the evening, Georgetown/East Coast Regional champions Marian Academy proved too strong for the School of the Nations, producing a 72-8 blow-out.
Timothy Thompson had a big game with 35 points, 18 rebounds, 4 steals. Jahleel Young added 12 points, 14 rebounds, and Josiah Daniels 9 points, 5 rebounds for Marian.
Kareem Boyle and Corey Graham scored 5 and 3 points respectively.
The Championships tipped off after remarks and the symbolic jump ball by the Director of Sport Christopher Jones.

Jones, in his remarks, congratulated YBG for its work in the field and encouraged the participating teams to keep improving since they have other levels of competition on the horizon, such as the Inter-Guiana Games which will be played in Suriname this year.
The Festival (National Championships) is sponsored by the Edward B. Beharry Group of Companies Ltd, National Sports Commission, John Fernandes Ltd and Sterling Product Ltd.
Games will continue throughout this week starting from 15:30hrs every day, with the finals in all divisions set for this Sunday.
