Remanded on gun, robbery charges

A 38-YEAR-OLD labourer was on Monday charged for discharging a loaded firearm at a man during an attempted robbery.
Edward Grudge of Remus Street, Agricola, East Bank Demerara appeared before City Magistrate Judy Latchman and was remanded to prison on two charges.
Particulars of the first charge allege that on January 27, 2017 at McDoom, Public Road, EBD, Grudge discharged a loaded firearm at Devendra Dean with intent to maim, disfigure or disable him.

It is further alleged that on the same day and at the same location Grudge attempted to rob Dean.
Grudge denied the charges and was represented by attorney, Michael Somersall.
Police prosecutor, Shawn Gonsalves objected to the defendant being released on bail on the grounds of the seriousness, prevalence of the charge and the fact that a gun was used to commission the crime.
The Magistrate ruled in the prosecution’s favour and remanded Grudge until July 10.
