WITH just over three weeks to go before the second national Race of Champions, Group Three competitor Danny Persaud is eyeing a good outing in the group three class with his Mazda Miata.
Persaud, one of the strongest contenders at the local and regional level in the Group Three category, believes that there is still a fight to be had here in Guyana, especially come July 2.
“What I’ve seen [on social media] and heard is that there are a lot of guys coming out this time around, and I welcome the competition. I’m glad to hear that there are so many guys coming out. It will only make racing more fun,” Persaud said.

He continued, “As it relates to my car and its preparation, there wasn’t much work to be done from the last race meet. We had a little bit of handling work and ensuring that we dotted the ‘I’s and crossed the ‘t’s, but I think it will be fine come race day.”
“We are really using this as a gauge to the Caribbean Championship. As you know, Paul Vieira is the defending champion for a couple years now and we’ve always had hiccups when we meet him,” the Group Three driver said.
He noted however that after the November leg last year, the mechanics had taken the car apart to solve all of its problems, and after the first race of champions, the issues were minimized greatly.

While he refused to single out any particular competitor, he noted that he expects a more fierce battle in the Group Three for 2017 and predicted that the local championship will come down to the wire.
He is calling on fans to come out and support the event, which is being held at the South Dakota Circuit under the auspices of the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club, (GMR&SC)
The event is sponsored by Ansa McAl, Prem’s Electrical, B.M. Soat, Mohamed’s Enterprise, Ready Mix, Special Auto, Japarts, Ticket Master, Palm Court, KGM, MAC batteries, S. Jagmohan Hardware Supplies and Construction, L Mahabir and Sons Cambio and Choke Gas Station
