Woman remanded for one gram of cocaine

A DOMESTIC worker was remanded to prison on Wednesday by City Magistrate Judy Latchman on a drug trafficking charge.
Hazel Smith, 47, of 7th Avenue Bartica and Eccles Squatting Area, East Bank Demerara, denied the charge which alleged that on May 30, 2017 at Bartica Arcade, she had one gram of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
The woman did not have legal representation and Police Prosecutor, Shellon Daniels objected to bail based on the seriousness of the offence. Magistrate Latchman ruled in the prosecution’s favour and remanded the woman until June 1. The matter was transferred to Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan.
