FOR the past two days, workers of the Solid Waste Management Department of the Mayor and City Council (M&CC), carried out a tree painting exercise on Main Street and Brickdam, in an effort to usher in Independence celebrations.

Solid Waste Management Director, Walter Narine, sharing in the exercise

Both days, workers assembled at City Hall for 9:00hrs to carry out the exercise that was led by Solid Waste Director, Walter Narine.

The teams not only painted tree trunks, but weeded and cleaned the public benches in the area. The lantern poles were also painted.

Narine told Guyana Chronicle that in the past, any major activity in the country was marked by an event of this nature.

“We’re trying to revitalise that. An event like this gives you a sense of pride and belonging.”

Mayor Patricia Chase-Green and her deputy, Lionel Jaikarran, along with some city councillors also participated in the activity.
