Cop charged with wounding

A POLICE Constable attached to the Special Branch of the Guyana Police Force was released on self-bail Thursday for the offence of wounding.

Dwayne Dodson of Kaikan Street, North Ruimveldt, Georgetwn, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, where he denied that on October 16, 2016 at the National Park, he unlawfully and maliciously inflicted grievous bodily harm to Donald Mahadeo.

Police Prosecutor, Inspector Alvin Moore made no objection to bail but revealed to the court that the accused is a police officer and the matter is currently before the Police Complaints Authority.

Moore further explained that the officer’s twin brother, Dwight Dodson along with other persons were also charged with the same offence.  The Chief Magistrate released the police constable on self-bail and adjourned the matter until May 22, 2017.
