OLYMPIAN Brenessa Thompson took the women’s 100m win at the Michael Johnson Invitational, in a wind-aided 11.15 seconds, last weekend at the Hart Track & Field Stadium.
The Texas A & M students topped a list of almost 40 athletes, and defended her title in the event, which she also won last year. This performance comes one week after Thompson qualified for the upcoming IAAF World Championships women’s 200m. The 20-year-old clocked 23.08 seconds in the women’s 200m at the Jim Bush Collegiate Invitational on April 15, also winning that race.

The time was only just inside the IAAF 23.10 seconds qualifying time (QT). However, the national record-holder will have to continue striving to meet the 11.26 seconds QT for the World Championships women’s 100m.
Also performing at the MJ Invitational was Guyana’s Kadecia Baird. The world junior silver medallist finished fourth in the women’s 200m, where she clocked 24.07 seconds. Baird has already qualified for the World Championships women’s 200m earlier last month.
Baird also helped to lead the Texas A & M female 4x400m team to a second-place finish with a time of 3:40.76s.
