A BETERVERWAGTING, East Coast Demerara resident was remanded to prison on Wednesday after he was charged with the attempted murder of a female Police Constable.

Warren Dennis appeared before Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court and was not required to plead to the indictable charge, which alleged that on April 23, 2017 at Beterverwagting, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Alana Hazel with intent to commit murder.

He was unrepresented and was remanded to prison until May 8, 2017. Reports indicate that Hazel, 28, who is attached to the Police Officers’ Mess, Eve Leary was on her way to give her son some school supplies on the day in question, when Dennis allegedly attacked her.

He escaped but was subsequently taken into police custody by his brother. Hazel, who is still a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital, suffered from several chop wounds about her body and her left wrist was severed.
