AN EAST Ruimveldt, Georgetown man was sentenced to three years imprisonment and fined $1.4 million after he admitted to being in possession of 548 grams of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Anthony Gibson, 26, a former Chef of Royal Castle, appeared before Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday. He was arrested on April 24, 2017 at the Cheddie Jagan International Airport (CJIA) after ranks of the Police Narcotics Branch observed that he was acting in a suspicious manner as he was preparing to board a Caribbean Airlines flight to The Bahamas.
When he was questioned, he admitted to the authorities that he had ingested cocaine pellets. The police report stated that he had ingested a total of 52 cocaine pellets, weighing 548 grammes in total. When the magistrate asked Gibson why he ingested the substance, he told her that he turned to cocaine trafficking because he needed to take care of his girlfriend and their son.
Gibson claimed that a man, whom he knows as Jermaine, gave him the cocaine pellets to take to The Bahamas, with a promise of cash payments.
