Granny on bail for shooting Alpha Hotel employee

LEILA Jagdeo appeared before Magistrate Alisha George on Friday at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court, charged with discharging a loaded firearm and intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The 69-year-old woman allegedly shot and injured Alpha Hotel employee, Brandon Collins with her licensed firearm on March 30, 2017. Jagdeo of Lot 3 Ogle, East Bank Demerara, pleaded not guilty to both charges. The 23-year-old victim is a maintenance worker at the hotel.

Magistrate George released the elderly woman on $100,000 bail and adjourned the matter to May 22, 2017.

According to reports, Collins was clearing vines from the hotel’s fence when he was asked to remove by the owner of a house that separates the two lots; however he refused to move.

The accused allegedly armed herself and discharged a round at the victim which struck him in the abdomen. He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he was admitted in a stable condition.
