Teams down to business end of Milo Schools U-18 football

 

EIGHT teams remain in the Petra-organised, Milo-sponsored Schools U-18 Football Championship following the round of sixteen matches last weekend.
Buxton United were the first to book their spot in the quarter-finals with a 4-1 win over Queenstown. Strikes came from Ablamy Robertson-21st, John Gonzales-26th, Kifambo Goodman-30th, and Teffrel Campbell-41st while Queenstown had Denzil Ross-59th on target.
After a strong showing in the earlier game, Pure Masters could not get past School of the Nations. The latter produced a 2-1 win thanks to strikes from Carlos Oreido (22nd) and Quadad DeFreitas (33rd) while Matthew Gonsalves was on target for the losers.
Bishops’ High (2-1) also moved on to the next round at the expense of Queen’s College, as Imran Khan (3rd) and Keron Niles (10th) were on target for the winners while DeAndro Kirton (14th) scored the consolidation goal.
The last game of the day saw another rout by defending champions Chase Academy, as they thrashed South Ruimveldt 13-0. Nicholas McArthur scored five goals (11th, 17th, 30th, 41st, 46th) while Rondell Peters scored a hat-trick (18th, 34th, 59th) to lead the team to victory.
Individual strikes came from Malachi Adonis-7th, Tyrell Khan-24th, Isaiah Jack-31st, Jeremy Garrett-61st and Joshua Williams-63rd.
On Sunday, the second set of matches saw Masters Academy demolish Tutorial High 12-1.
For Masters Calvin Peters scored a helmet-trick (5th, 9th, 32nd and 36th) with a hat-trick from Tyron Khan (52nd, 60th, 62nd) and a brace from Dorinyn George (58th, 64th) while single strikes came from O’Neil Glasgow (1st), Ryan Dowden (28th), Carl Lynch (41st) and Andel Smith (47th).
Tutorial had Zion Gray on target (57th).
In the second game, Carmel needled Lodge Secondary with Darrel Niles 55th on the scorecard while Dolphin went down 1-7 to Sir Leon’s Lessons as Shemar Welch’s 68th minute goal was overturned by a helmet-trick from Adrian Aaron (9th, 40th, 57th, 59th) and single strikes from Omari James (56th), Meshach Barratt (60th) and Dexter Blue (65th)
Morgan Learning Centre was the last team to qualify via a 7-0 win over East Ruimveldt thanks to Chris Casey’s brace (44th, 55th) as well as lone strikes from Orin Moore (30th), Lionel Holder (34th), Daniel Clarke (53rd) and Daniel Floyd (62nd)
The championship continues this weekend at the same venue with the quarter-final matches as the teams pursue the $500 000 first prize on offer in this tournament. Second-, third- and fourth-place finishers will pocket $300 000, $200 000 and $100 000 respectively – money that will go towards a school project.
