The landing gear of an Air Services Limited (ASL) Cessna 172 broke on landing at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) on Monday afternoon.

Reports are that the female student pilot was conducting a “solo” flight on the Cessna Skyhawk aircraft, bearing registration 8R-AFS, when the incident occurred on Runway 11; this is the secondary runway at the airport. Rescue operations commenced immediately.

There are no reports of injuries to the pilot. The incident is being investigated by the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).
