PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, (CMC) — MLS star Kevin Molino scored the only goal as Trinidad and Tobago revived their 2018 World Cup dream with a 1-0 victory over Panama in their all-important CONCACAF final round qualifier here Friday night.
Desperately in need of a victory following losses in their two opening games last November, Trinidad were given a huge boost when the 26-year-old fired home what proved to be the winner in the 37th minute at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

The win left Trinidad fifth on three points in the six-team standings ahead of their clash with Mexico at the same venue on Tuesday.
Head coach Dennis Lawrence, in his first full international in charge after being appointed in January, praised the side for the character and national pride they displayed.
“I think the most important thing … that was demonstrated, was that what I asked the boys to do was to make sure the people of Trinidad and Tobago came out and saw a team that wanted to fight for the country. I think they did that well,” Lawrence told a media conference afterwards.
“I am pretty pleased with 90 per cent of the game itself. They tried to execute some of the things I wanted. We can enjoy it only for five minutes because the focus goes immediately onto to Mexico.”
Trinidad and Tobago were positive from the opening whistle, with Joevin Jones sending a free kick narrowly wide early before forcing a fine save out of goalkeeper Jaime Cano with a rasping drive.
Panama went close when Abdiel Arroyo sent his header wide but it was Trinidad and Tobago who grabbed the lead with half-time approaching.

Jones, just beyond the half-way line, played a pass into Minnesota FC forward Molino who found space to turn and surge to the top of the 18-yard box before unleashing a low right-footed volley that beat Cano to his right.
Goalkeeper Jan-Michael Williams then pulled off a key save to preserve the scoreline when he denied Edgar Barcenas on the stroke of half-time.
In the second half, Panama pushed hard for the equaliser and while they had a couple of half chances, they failed to break down a stubborn T&T defence.
Veteran striker Kenwyne Jones came closest to adding to the hosts’ tally late on but only managed to lash his shot into the side-netting from close range.
