CHIEF Magistrate Ann McLennan on Thursday remanded a 27-year-old South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, woman after a cache of ammunition was found inside her apartment.

Alana Edwards, who works in the mining industry, was not required to plead to the indictable charge, which alleged that on September 16,2016, at Lot 3272 Lamaha Place, South Ruimveldt, she had 50 rounds of .40 ammunition and 19 rounds of 7.62 by 51 ammunition in her possession, when she is not the holder of a firearm licence.
Her lawyer, Leslie Benjamin, in her bail application, explained that Edwards’ home was not searched in her presence, since she was in the interior. The lawyer told the court that her client had informed police that the bag was given to her by a friend and that she had no knowledge of what was inside.
Police Prosecutor, Arvin Moore, objected to bail and revealed that police ranks acted on information, visited the home and conducted a search, during which the ammunition was found in a bag inside the bedroom of the accused.
The prosecutor said that the accused was only arrested earlier this month after police failed to locate her since she had fled to the interior. The court heard that Edwards’ roommate was at home during the search and was arrested. However, the roommate was released after 72 hours.
According to prosecutor Moore, Edwards told police that the bag was given to her by an individual named “Blackboy” of La Penitence, with whom she was in a relationship. Bail was refused and Edwards was remanded until April 21, 2017.
