Guyana extends condolences to Haiti, St Lucia and UK

THE Government of Guyana has extended condolences to Haiti, St Lucia and the United Kingdom, which have recently experienced unfortunate events.

In a statement, Guyana said it stands in solidarity with the people of the Republic of Haiti, who are mourning the loss of 34 lives following a fatal vehicular crash on March 12.

“We extend our sincere condolences to the loved ones of those who were killed and we pray for the speedy recovery of those who suffered injuries. The spirit of strength and perseverance of the Haitian people is an inspiration to the world and we are confident that this spirit will aid in the nation overcoming this tragedy.”

Guyana also expressed sincere condolences to Prime Minister Allen Chastenet, the Government and people of St Lucia, on the tragic loss of four lives on the island on Tuesday, March 21, following an explosion in the Cul de Sac area.

Over 20 injured in blast.

“The Guyana Government especially extends deepest condolences to the families, relatives and friends of the persons whose lives were lost. The Government and people of Guyana extend a hand of comfort to all St Lucians at this most difficult time of mourning.

“We pray for the complete and quick recovery of all those who were injured and for their families and relatives to find comfort and strength, as they provide care and cope in this time of immense distress.”

Apart from Haiti and St Lucia, Guyana said her thoughts and prayers are with the people of the United Kingdom, following the attack at Westminster which resulted in the deaths of three persons and injuries to several others.

“We offer condolences to those who are in mourning and to those who have been affected by this heinous attack. The Government and people of Guyana stand in solidarity with the British people and call for the perpetrators of such attacks to be condemned and defeated in their repugnant agenda of perpetuating fear, hatred and uncertainty. The Government and people of Guyana reject and condemn cowards who seek to use violence and terror to create panic and mayhem,” the statement concluded.
