THREE MEN, including a police officer, appeared before city Magistrate Leron Daly on Thursday charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA).

The police officer, Constable Louie Dublin, was charged separately for allegedly having 558 grammes of cocaine in his possession at the Lotus Restaurant and Bar located at the CJIA, Timehri, on March 17, 2017.

Constable Dublin strongly denied the charge. However, the court was told that a sting operation was conducted at the airport after police ranks became suspicious of Dublin’s actions.
The prosecutor further told the court that upon his arrest, Dublin gave a caution statement to the police admitting that Delvor Bunbury Jr and Gavin Harris had given him the bag.
Bunbury Jr and Harris also appeared in court, jointly charged for having 558 grammes of cocaine in their possession at the CJIA for the purpose of trafficking on March 17, 2017.
The men denied the charge. Their attorney Leslie Benjamin, explained that Bunbury Jr, 27, is the manager of Ivor Bunbury Furniture Store in Plaisance, East Coast Demerara, while Gavin Harris, 25, works as the office assistant at the same store.
All three of the men were denied bail by Magistrate Daly. Dublin was ordered to return to court on April 8, while Bunbury Jr and Harris will return on April 10, 2017.
