Brothers accused of stealing raw gold from employer

TWO brothers appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on Friday, charged with simple larceny.

The men, Alex Feidtkou, 23 and his younger brother Leon Alleyne, 21 of Essequibo are accused of stealing raw gold from their employer at Waini Backdam, Essequibo on March 20, 2017.

They pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that they stole 73 penny weights of gold from Zaheer Khan, their employer.  The men were granted $100,000 bail each by the Chief Magistrate.

Police prosecutor, Deniro Jones, did not object to bail and informed the court that the gold was found in the possession of the men during a search exercise at Supenaam. According to Jones, when the gold was found the men could not give an account of it, which made the police suspicious.

Subsequently, the men were arrested after the matter was reported by Khan about the gold theft. The matter was transferred to the Acquero Magistrates Court for April 4, 2017.
