travelling, a Toyota 212, ploughed into a utility pole at Borlam Turn on the Corentyne.
Dead is Shazam Ismile, called ‘Imran’ and ‘Khan Man”, 23, of Portuguese Quarters, Port Mourant. Those injured have been identified as the driver of the car, 21-year-old Devindra Seepersuad, called “Bai”, and Anthony Ramlochand, 23, of East Canje.
Both were initially admitted to the New Amsterdam Hospital, where Seepersaud, of Palmyra Village, remains a patient under guard,while Ramlochand has since been transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
According to reports, the trio was on their way to Port Mourant to take Ismile home,when the driver, who was said to be intoxicated, lost control of the vehicle, PMM 865, while negotiating a turn at Borlam Village.

LOST CONTROL

“The driver was coming around the turn and lost control of the vehicle, spin around a couple times, and then slam into the post,” one of Ismile’s relatives said.

Ismile reportedly died on the spot, since he was in the front passenger seat, which apparently bore the brunt of the impact. The accident reportedly occurred around 18:45hrs.
His mother, Ms Brahas Baijnauth, 57, said she was notified of the accident by his boss.
“Around seven time,” she said, “the boss-man wife call and she tell meh that Imran reach up in an accident.
“Meh ask she if Imran dead, and she tell me no.Lil bit after, meh get wan next call from meh niece; and she tell meh seh meh son dead.”
According to the distraught mother, she was away at her daughter’s home at Leonora for two days, and had only retuned home on Sunday morning.
Immediately after she got home, she said, she asked for Shazam, who’s her youngest child, but was told that he hadn’t returned from work as yet.
A PREMONITION
“When I reach home, me mind run straight pon meh son. And the first thing I ask isif Imran ain’t come home yet: Wheh Imran deh till now? Dis bhai nah come home yet from work?”
The woman said she felt a bit relieved when he called around 16:00hrs to say that he was going to be late getting home.

“He called and tell me, ‘Mommy,leh dem bhai take care ah de sheep dem,ah gonna come home later’.That was the last time me hear from meh son. Ah can’t believe he dead,” the woman said, fighting back tears.
She recalled that it was just two months ago that he injured himself while riding a donkey cart, and had to be laid up at home for a while,and that it was only recently that he started working again.
She said the driver and her son are friends through work, and would hang out together regularly.

Described as a hard-working lad, Ismile reportedly worked as a labourer at a poultry depot at the Rose Hall Market, but reared his own livestock and poultry at home.
