Consultancy group launches new money transfer advisory service

A LOCAL firm, The Consultancy Group, has launched a money transfer advisor service dubbed “sendyuhmoney.com” as part of the European Union funded Increasing Remittance, Efficiency, Management and Investment For Socio-economic Transformation in Guyana Project (REMIT Project).

In a release, the group said implemented with support from the ACP EU Migration Action, sendyuhmoney.com features an online calculator that allows visitors to quickly compare transfer rates among the major money transfer companies in Guyana, and provides a map of outlet locations closest to the intended receipt.

This new online tool goes beyond a typical money transfer information service, in that it also highlights various community development projects across Guyana, allowing persons living abroad to directly support projects in their former communities, or farther afield. These community projects have been carefully screened using various criteria, such as having a governing board and an account in the project’s name.

The website, and the REMIT Project in general, aim to educate the public on the costs to send money home and to provide information on safer options for sending money to friends and family. The Project developed these tools following surveys and engagements with rural communities in Region 4, Guyana (Plaisance to Mahaica) and migrants in the New York-New Jersey areas.

Other key stakeholders involved in the project included public and private sector actors such as money transfer companies, banks and the relevant government agencies such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Guyana Diaspora Project, to name a few.
