LOWER Corentyne Secondary School will meet the defending champions Chase Academy in second semifinal of the Inter-Secondary School phase next Thursday after they whipped No.8 Secondary School by 96 runs in the Berbice Zone final played at the Albion Sports Complex yesterday.
Chasing 137 for victory, the West Coast Berbice batsmen failed to show any sort of commitment with the bat, and were skittled out for 39 in 15.2 overs.
From the outset the spinners completely confounded the visitors’ batsmen, with off-spinners Vijay Gopilall and Junior Sinclair utilising whatever turn was made available on the pitch to finish with figures of 4-10 and 3-11 respectively.

Fellow spinners Joshua Wilson and Kristoff Williams claimed a wicket apiece for the winners.
Earlier, the game was reduced to 25 overs aside after early morning showers delayed the start of play by three hours. Lower Corentyne, inserted to bat first in overcast conditions, lost Sinclair (1) in the innings’ first over, caught at the wicket off Deonauth Persaud (1-17).
Thereafter the West Coast Berbice team allowed a steady stream of runs, with fellow opener Davendra Sumra and Kevlon Anderson rebuilding strongly.
The right-handed pair capitalised on the poor bowling and sloppy fielding, and were allowed to score freely at both ends of the wicket until leg-spinner Daniel Moses ended the 67-run partnership. He had Anderson caught at long-on boundary for 31.
Haresh Fernandes joined Sumra, and added 27 runs for the third-wicket before they suffer a middle-order collapse, losing three wickets for six runs.
Off-spinner Irshad Ally claimed the wickets of Fernandes (5) and Rico Ramsammy (6), in the 18th over while left-arm spinner Nigel Deodat (1-15) removed Sumra for a composed 39.
Joshua Wilson, who remained unbeaten on 15, and Justin Gobin (10) then joined forces and added 22 runs at the back end of the innings.
Kristoff Williams (0) was the other batsman dismissed off Ally, who finished with figures of 3-21.
The first semi-final is billed for today between West Demerara Secondary and Anna Regina Multilateral School at the Imam Bacchus ground.
