TORONTO, Canada — It was a reunion of some sorts when Canada-based Guyanese Damodar Daesrath and Sewnarine Chattergoon met at the Hawaiian Arctic Cricket Club (HACC) annual presentation, dinner and dance held here recently. Chattergoon, who still resides in Guyana, was enjoying a well-earned vacation with his family. The two stalwarts from neighbouring villages in Corentyne, Berbice were part of the West Indies Under-15 World Cup side in England some 21 years ago. That 1996 team, who reached the semi-finals of the Costcutter tournament, was skippered by Trinidadian Zaheer Ally and also included Jamaican Marlon Samuels, Barbadian Ryan Hinds and Trinidadian Sherwin Ganga.
Chattergoon, who hails from Fyrish and Daesrath from Cumberland also went on to represent Guyana at the Under-19 and senior levels while the former went a step further, donning West Indies colours in four Test matches and 18 One-day Internationals.
Daesrath also led Guyana at the senior level before migrating to Canada and in 2012 he made his Canadian debut versus Scotland in Glasgow.
He was also a prominent member of the Brampton Masters Cricket Club in the Toronto & District League and up until last season represented Hawaiian Arctic Cricket Club (HACC) in the Scarborough Cricket Association (SCA) Elite League tournament. (Frederick Halley)
