No bail for two Mash Day robbery accused

TWO men were remanded to prison when they appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Monday after they were charged separately for robberies committed on Mash Day.It is alleged that while in the company of others at Brickdam, Georgetown on February 23, 2017 Shawn Smith robbed Shevannie Sooklall of one white jersey and one cell phone valued $258,000.

Police Prosecutor, Shawn Gonzales, strongly opposed bail being granted, citing the seriousness of the offence, its prevalence in society and the penalty attached to the charge. Gonzales added that if granted bail the defendant might not return to the court.

Meanwhile, Pascal Smith of Pike Street, Kitty also made his appearance on Monday before Magistrate Latchman on robbery charges as well.

It is also alleged that on February 23, at Pike Street, while armed with a knife, he robbed Shabidee Khan of one cell phone valued $120,000 and $20,000 cash.

Prosecutor Gonzales again objected to bail.

Both matters were adjourned to March 20.
