NAACIE mourns passing of Joseph

The National Association of Agricultural, Industrial and Commercial Employees (NAACIE) said it is deeply saddened at the passing of its leader and stalwart Brother, Kenneth Oscar Joseph -AA.

Joseph died on Thursday at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), after suffering a stroke attack. Joseph was born on June 25, 1951, at Sparendaam, East Coast Demerara, to Una and Cyril Joseph. He was married to Mrs. Waveney Joseph and was the father of six children and seventeen grandchildren.
Bro. Joseph worked at Linden Bauxite Industry, when that Industry was closed he was employed by the Guyana Sugar Corporation at the Albion Estate in the Field Workshop and became a member of NAACIE. With the urge to represent workers and his leadership qualities, he became a Representative of NAACIE and was elected General President of the Union.

On July 1st, 2002, Bro. Joseph was seconded to the Union’s Head Office as the General President. He served in this position until he was appointed as General Secretary on June 1, 2006. Bro. Joseph dedicated most of his life fighting for workers’ rights, strength and unity. He represented that not only in Guyana but in other Countries namely; Antigua, Barbados, England, Geneva, Brazil, Trinidad, Venezuela and Jamaica, just to mention a few. He was also the General Secretary of the Federation of Independent Trade Union of Guyana (FITUG). He was recognised and awarded the Arrow of Achievement medal by the Government of Guyana.

Bro. Joseph served the Union, its members and workers with distinction locally and overseas at Seminars and Conferences at the Caribbean Congress of Labour (CCL), IUF, UNI. He was well respected and love by all. The Executives, Members of (Guysuco, Guyana Power & Light, BOSAI, NFMU and CCI) and Staff of NAACIE extend their heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Joseph, the children, and other family, friends and colleagues. Bro. Joseph will be dearly missed.
