… chalks up back-to-back victories within three days

TEAM Coco’s Hamzah Eastman yesterday won the annual R&R International Cycle Road race to chalk up back-to-back victories withing three days,after winning the Courts Guyana Limited sponsored 30-mile road race in Berbice on Thursday last.He won in one hour, 31 minutes 36 seconds,ahead of his teammate Jamal John, Team Evolution’s Michael Anthony, Continental Wheelers’ Geron Williams, Shaquele Agard and Alonzo Ambrose. In the process, Eastman also won three of the six prime prizes that were up for grabs, while John won the other three.

On Thursday, Eastman won the Flying Ace Cycle Club organized 30-mile race in one hour 01.50 seconds in an event that brought out most of the country’s top riders.
In yesterday’s event, Eastman had to battle to stave off a strong challenge from six other top riders which included the other top five finishers.

After being sent on their way from outside the Ocean View International Hotel, there was an eight-man group that made a break at Plaisance;a group that comprised Anthony, John, Silvio Inniss who fell on the way up at Happy Acres, Shaquel Agard and Andrew Hicks.
The eight riders stayed together,inter-changing the lead,however,at Beterverwagting, Williams, Hicks and Ambrose broke from the peloton and joined John and Anthony at Mahaica new road and after turning back, Eastman and Andrew Hicks went out and was only caught by the main chasing pack at Lusignan.From there the pack of seven raced to the finish line, but it was Eastman who prevailed to take the top prize.

In other placements from yesterday’s race, Curtis Dey of Berbice won the junior category ahead of Jason Cameron and Adeleli Hidge respectively, while Junior Niles won the veterans’ category ahead of paul Cho-Wee-Nam and Stephen Fernandes respectively.
The mountain bike category was won by Oziah McAulley. Second was Michael Holder.
The presentation of prizes to the respective winners was done by the race’s sponsor Jacob Rambarran, a former cyclist.
The event was organised by Hassan Mohamed.
