TWO Albouystown residents, who allegedly robbed a man after following him from the bank, were remanded to prison on Friday by Magistrate Leron Daly for the offence of robbery under arms.

Mark Prince called ‘Fine Man’ and Regan Singh called ‘Turtle’ were jointly charged with the offence, which alleged that on February 17, 2017, at Lamaha Street, Georgetown while in the company of others, robbed Herman Gurber Bello of a shoulder bag, two phones, two Venezuelan passports along with $488,000 cash – totaling $728,000.

The duo pleaded not guilty to the charge. According to reports, Bello is employed at Versa Drilling Company and on the day in question, he visited Scotiabank on Lamaha Street and withdrew $488,000.

While walking to his car, Bello was allegedly approached by Prince, who was armed with a gun and demanded that he hand over his shoulder bag with the items and money inside. Prince reportedly escaped in a waiting car, which was allegedly driven by Singh.

Meanwhile, Prince was charged separately with another count of robbery under arms, which took place on January 21, 2017 at Blygezight Garden, Georgetown.

It is alleged that while in the company of others and armed with a gun, he robbed Gobin Sooknanan of $365,000, after following him from the bank. He also pleaded not guilty to this charge.

According to reports, on the day in question, at about 08:00h, Sooknanan withdrew $455,000 from the GBTI Bank in Diamond, East Bank Demerara and subsequently stopped in Herstelling, EBD to make a $90,000 business payment.

The man then left and drove to his Blygezight home but was ambushed by the suspect and relieved of the $365,000 he had left over. Prince escaped in a waiting car.

Police Prosecutor Bharat Mangru objected to the duo being released on bail citing the nature and gravity of the charges. They men did not have legal representation and were remanded until March 10, 2017.
