Lethem farmer beaten to death

A LETHEM farmer was beaten to death by a group of men on Saturday while travelling with his brother along an illegal crossing linking Guyana and Brazil. Dead is Lee Antone, 21, a farmer of Kaicumbay Village, North-Central Rupununi, Lethem and Bonfim Brazil.
Reports indicate that Antone and his brother, Veto Antone, 20, were at a bar partying in Lethem when they left around 01:45hrs Saturday morning, heading to Bonfim along the Takutu Bridge.
There, 14 unidentified males blocked their path and began beating them. Police said some of the perpetrators were armed with pieces of wood, rocks and other objects.
Veto Antone managed to escape leaving his brother behind. He returned at day- break and saw his brother lying on his back motionless with his face covered in blood.
The man’s body had several wounds to the face, head, leg and arm. A party of policemen visited the scene and the body was taken to the Lethem Regional Hospital where the injured man was pronounced dead on.
The body is at the Lethem Regional Hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem. No arrest has been made as yet as an investigation continues.
