EMBATTLED Jamaican sprinter Nesta Carter has officially filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) after retrospectively being found guilty of committing a doping offence at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. After receiving a ruling in January of this year, which showed that the sprinter’s retested samples returned traces of the prohibited substance methylhexaneamine, Carter was given 21 days to file an appeal.
On Wednesday Carter’s lawyer, who had confirmed that the sprinter was strongly considering the possibility of an appeal, confirmed that the documents had now been filed to the CAS.
Carter, along with the rest of the Jamaica 4x100m relay team which consisted of Michael Frater, Asafa Powell and Usain Bolt, was stripped of his Olympic gold medal following the findings of the retest.
The sixth-fastest 100m runner of all-time with a clocking of 9.78 seconds, Carter ran the opening leg of the Olympic 4x100m final in Beijing as Jamaica stormed to victory in a then world record 37.10 seconds.
The athlete recently returned to action after being given clearance by the IAAF to compete, while the process of his appeal was pending.
