UK arrests two over Pakistan Super League spot-fixing

… Khan, Latif, Jamshed banned for violating anti-corruption code

TWO men have been arrested by a UK law enforcement agency as part of an investigation into spot-fixing in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Investigations are being made by the United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency (NCA), the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
As part of the PCB’s probe, three players who have all represented Pakistan internationally – Sharjeel Khan, Khalid Latif and Nasir Jamshed – have been banned for violating its anti-corruption code.

Latif has protested his innocence, while the father of Khan says his son “did nothing wrong”.
The PCB has previously referred to “an ongoing investigation into an international syndicate which is believed to be attempting to corrupt the Pakistan Super League.”
A National Crime Agency (NCA) spokesperson said: “Two men in their thirties have been arrested by National Crime Agency officers in connection with bribery offences as part of an ongoing investigation into international cricket match spot-fixing.
“The men were arrested on Monday February 13 and have been released on bail until April 2017 pending further enquiries.

“As part of the ongoing investigation we are working closely with the Pakistan Cricket Board and International Cricket Council’s anti-corruption units. The Pakistan Cricket Board has launched its own investigation which has resulted in the suspension of three players.”
UK police were also involved in the conviction of three Pakistan international players, Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir, for spot-fixing in a 2010 Test match against England at Lord’s.
