The body of Ramesh Seegolam, known as ‘Mickey’ was pulled from the Berbice River Tuesday morning after he reportedly drowned while swimming with friends on Monday.
This newspaper understands that Seegolam, 30, of Pepper Street, Glasgow Village, East Bank Berbice, was employed by the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo,) and on Monday, he and three friends consumed alcohol before deciding to go for a swim.

However after the swim, the men claimed that they thought Seegolam had left the water, unknowing to them even though his clothing was left behind. His mother, Usha Seegobin, said that villagers formed a search party last night in the hope of finding her son, but it was futile. The search party then placed a seine overnight in the water and this morning, the body was caught in the net. The three friends remain in police custody as investigations continue into the man’s death.
