Region 2 promises exciting Mash activities

REGIONAL Executive Officer, Mr. Rupert Hopkinson, officially launched Mashramani activities in Region Two on Monday, promising citizens of the region an action-packed programme to commemorate Guyana’s 47th Republican Anniversary.During brief remarks at the launch late last month, Hopkinson pledged the Administration’s unconditional support in all aspects of the varied form of events. He further stressed the importance of the national event which he emphasised, as the enduring potential to embrace all races, even as he appealed for maximum participation under the theme ‘celebrating with dignity, liberty and greater unity’.

The simple ceremony was chaired by Assistant Regional Executive Officer, Ms. Yvette Tafares-Hastings, who welcomed the gathering, including members of the private sector, regional officials, members of the media and former Member of Parliament, Mr. Isahak Basir.

The proceedings were opened with prayers from the different religious denominations and followed by the reciting of the National Pledge. Outlining the chain of events was Mr. Dillip Singh, President of the Essequibo Chambers of Commerce. The range of activities during the period January-March 2017 will include a road march, dramatic poetry and calypsos, costume display, steel pan in the street, history speeches, cultural folklore of songs, day of sports along with the main spectacle being the flag-raising ceremony and cultural show to be hosted at the Anna Regina Community Ground on the evening of February, 22nd, 2017.

The colorful array of activities will culminate with the adjudging of the best kept community on March, 10th, 2017 at various villages along the Essequibo Coast.
