A family heading to an outing, escaped with minor injuries on Sunday after the minibus in which they were travelling in careened off the roadway at Schoonord, West Bank Demerara.
According to reports, around midday on Sunday, the minibus bearing registration number BTT 9621, was heading south along the public road at Schoonord in the vicinity of the new entrance to the Parfait Harmonie Housing Scheme when the driver lost control of the vehicle.
Reports are that the minibus driver was overtaking a vehicle at the time when he observed another heading in the opposite direction attempting to turn into the entrance to Parfait Harmonie.
To avoid a collision, the man swerved off of the roadway and the bus later ended –up on its side in a drain along the side of the roadway.
There were no reports of serious injuries. Public-spirited citizens rushed to the scene to assist the passengers who were trapped in the vehicle. The family was heading to a creek on the highway at the time of the accident.
Police traffic ranks later arrived on the scene and manned the build-up of traffic in the area.
