A 29-year-old mother of one died on Saturday morning after the car she was driving slammed into an electrical pole at Seawell Village, Corentyne, East Berbice.

The accident occurred at approximately 09:00 hrs. According to reports, Shabana Ali, an employee of the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI), Port Mourant branch was on her way to Georgetown to attend a workshop when she reportedly lost control of the car she was driving.

The vehicle, bearing registration number PNN 198, slammed into an electrical pole. The young lady died on the spot. She resided with her family at Lot 7 Ramphal Street, Nigg Corentyne.

The driver side of the car bore the brunt of the impact and according to an eye witness, who was on the scene moments after the accident, it appeared as if the car was “wrapped around the pole.”

“Me ain’t know wah happen but it look like the car slam into the pole and fold in, like if it wrap up round the pole.”

Ali was picked up in an unconscious state, bleeding from her ear and rushed to the New Amsterdam hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival. She reportedly died of multiple internal injuries sustained as a result of the impact.

The incident has left investigators and relatives baffled as to what caused the accident as there are no break impressions or any animals in the vicinity at the time of the accident.

Ali’s husband, Vijay Etwaroo is still in a state of shock and could not speak after learning the dreadful news that his wife and mother of their 4- year-old daughter died.

Ali was described as a very jovial person, with a warm personality who had a bright future head of her.
