Minibus driver jailed in his absence

A MINIBUS driver was on Tuesday sentenced to two years in jail by City Magistrate Fabayo Azore after being found guilty of dangerous driving and causing a man’s death.

Orlando King of Melanie Damishana, East Coast Demerara, was found guilty of the charge that said on Sunday, July 26, at Camp and New Market Streets, Georgetown, he drove minibus BSS 4305 in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of Wilbert Andrew Anthony.

The magistrate declared that all evidence presented by the prosecution was found to be sufficient and as such, she handed down her sentence.
King was sentence in his absence.

According to the facts, on the day in question King was driving the vehicle at a fast rate when he collided with Anthony, who was pitched several feet away. The defendant crashed into several government properties, causing them to be damaged.
