Newly-appointed Chinese Ambassador to Guyana Cui Juianchun, on Wednesday toasted to a renewed friendship with acting President Moses Nagamootoo, along with other Government officials at a welcoming reception held at the Chinese Embassy which also simultaneously ushered in the Chinese Lunar New Year.Ambassador Juianchun, who came to Guyana three weeks ago, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming welcome and hospitality he has received from the Government, the Chinese community and the people of Guyana.
He committed to promoting friendship and cooperative relations with Guyana and wished all Guyanese a prosperous Chinese New Year — the year of the Rooster.
Ambassador Juianchun in his presentation outlined the economic progress made by China in 2016 and how the Government of the People’s Republic of China will continue to strengthen weak areas, such as decreasing poverty levels and strengthening supply and demand techniques.
Even as China strengthens its economy, the country will strengthen its contributions to Guyana. In June, the two countries will celebrate 55 years of bilateral relationship.
The Chinese Ambassador also lauded President David Granger for recently designating Chinese Arrival Day as a holiday.
“As the new Ambassador to Guyana, I recognise that there are great potentials and broad prospects for cooperation, I am willing to work with the Guyanese people and all communities here across Guyana to enhance our friendship and broaden our cooperation… I believe with the concerted efforts of the two Governments and peoples, we can bring our friendly and cooperative relationship to a higher level,” the ambassador said.
Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo, performing duties as President, also called for strengthened friendship between the two countries, positing that the Lunar New Year is a time of recommitment, renewal and strength.
Speaking extensively on China’s economic progression, Nagamootoo said Guyana is proud to have such a successful country.
“It serves to remind all of us on our mutual dependence on each other… Guyana therefore looks forward to being able to continue doing business with China in an atmosphere of mutual respect, in keeping with the aspirations of capacity of our countries,” Prime Minister Nagamootoo said.
He alluded to the many areas in which Guyana and China has worked closely and the important role China plays in Guyana’s development.
“China’s assistance to Guyana spans many areas and has made an impact on our lives in several ways. We are grateful for the construction of the Arthur Chung Convention Centre, the offered exchange programmes for journalists and security personnel and other professionals, we are grateful for the services of your medical brigade and for the assistance to expand and improve Guyana’s public infrastructure, public safety and security and to provide language and cultural support,” the Prime Minister said.
He remained confident that China will continue to support Guyana’s quest to achieve a green economy, and provide a good life for all Guyanese.
The reception also saw in attendance former President Donald Ramotar, former Prime Minister Samuel Hinds, several past and present Government ministers and Members of Parliament, members of the diplomatic corps and private sector representative.
