Labourer dies after crashing into utility pole

A 34-year-old labourer perished Sunday night after he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a utility pole at Hope Public Road, West Coast Berbice.The dead man, identified as Zafeed Jameer also known as Leonard, was a father of two and resided at Tempie Village, also on the West Coast of Berbice.

The fatal accident occurred at around 22:00 hrs.

The man’s mother, Joycelyn Jameer, 70, disclosed that her son left home on his motorcycle around 17: 00 hrs to visit his daughter who lives a few villages away.

She received news of the accident around midnight on Sunday.

A police report stated that Jameer was riding west along the public road on an unregistered Jialing motorcycle when he lost control and slammed into the concrete base of a light pole located south of the road.

He was rushed to the Fort Wellington Hospital in an unconscious state and was pronounced dead on arrival.

Jameer is survived by four siblings, his wife Savitri and his two children Ricardo, 11, and Sophia, seven.

West Berbice Police are investigating the accident.
