CITY MAGISTRATE Judy Latchman committed former Police Sergeant Leon Lindo to stand trial in the High Court at the next practical session of the Demerara Assizes.Magistrate Latchman stated that a prima facie case was made out against him for conspiracy to commit murder against Mohamed F. Khan, former owner of MFK Trading.

Lindo of Canal No. 2, West Bank Demerara, was accused of conspiring to murder businessman Khan. The particulars of the charge stated that Lindo, between July 8 and 10, 2014, at the Tactical Services Unit (TSU), Eve Leary, Georgetown, conspired with Lennox ‘Two Colours’ Wayne and others to murder the popular businessman.

Lindo’s first court appearance was May 2015 at the time of the commencement of the preliminary inquiry. The matter was prosecuted by Police Prosecutor Bharat Mangru, and 31 witnesses were called to testify on behalf of the prosecution.

Wayne, of Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, has been charged jointly and is on remand for the murder of Lusignan cosmetologist, Ashmini Harriram.

Prosecutor Mangru said an essential element in the prosecution’s case was a meeting of the minds between Lindo and main witness, Wayne.

Mangru in his closing submission stated that prosecution witness Wayne’s evidence was not discredited during cross-examination. Wayne testified that Lindo met him at the Tactical Services Unit (TSU), where Lindo asked him if he had ever killed anyone.

Mangru added that in Wayne’s evidence, Wayne stated that he was provided with a firearm and ammunition, and later described to the Court how he and Lindo followed the late businessman around the city from his home.

Additionally, Wayne had stated that on the evening of July 9, 2014, he shot MFK under Lindo’s instructions.

Lindo told the court yesterday he was innocent of the charge. He said Lennox Wayne was a notorious liar who was annoyed with him because of the present murder charge he faced.

Lindo will continue under the terms of his original bail of $400,000.

According to the prosecution facts, Khan was shot between July 8 and 10, 2014 and he went missing on August 21. On September 22, 2014, a headless body was found on a dam in Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara.

A DNA test was carried out on samples taken from the body and the result revealed that it was Khan’s. Lindo was arrested on the basis of statements given by Wayne, that a plot had been hatched between him and the accused to murder Khan.

Further investigations were carried out and advice was sought from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) before Lindo was charged.
