TWO separate fires during the early hours of Monday resulted in the death of two persons on the East Bank of Demerara.

Around 04:00hrs on Monday a fire at Third Street, Diamond Housing Scheme resulted in the death of 59-year-old Thakur Singh. Fire tenders raced to the scene, however  their efforts were affected by the sourcing of water.

Two villages away around the same time, a fire erupted at a home in the Kaneville Housing Scheme, resulting in the death of a toddler. Persons in the area reported that the second fire may have been the act of an arsonist.

Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
